Blueberry Flats

If you haven't been up here in a while, they've dug a huge trench in front of the gate... we discovered a new entrance which can be found about 300 meters closer to Sooke.

Me Karate Kidding

That's the view from the top of the mountain you reach when you enter through the end of Kingburne, then take that first steep left (where it starts to get fun), then right on the crazy way down (instead of heading down to the gravel pits / lake). It's what I've found to be the funnest track so far. Crazy climbing, lots of technical stuff, and in many areas, if you stall, good luck getting back going again.

But fully worth it!

As it happened to us, you may encounter people on top of that hill who will wonder how you got up there, because from the top, the way down isn't obvious, but when you're going up, with the adrenalin pumping, it's pretty straigt forward, doesn't even cross you mind you may not make it up.

Anderson Rd Sooke BC

Here's a place I've yet to ride, but I've heard there's a good mix of logging roads and technical climbs. We have been riding about 2kms up from here along the next long straight stretch which is awesome! Endless trails and lots of everything. It's very easy to get lost up here.

The only downside? I've heard sometimes cars get broken in to along the straight away of Westcoast Rd.. Usually lots of people parked there though.

Good ol' Butler Main

On a sunny day this is a sweet place to spend on the bike. There's a locked gate at the trail head which means you don't tend to see anyone on the trails or lakes. This is a fast paced ride down pretty smooth trails. Not much technical, but damn! The road runs along the Sooke potholes, then several lakes. Rods, beer and riding are friends of Butler Main.

Complaint? You have to drag your bike under the gate if you don't have a truck that can match the gate height.

You're not really supposed to be here so if you do happen upon a truck or something just nod and keep going like you're supposed to be there. ;)

This is where we've been getting in to Cobble Hill. Take the second turn to Cobble Hill from the highway, a right on Thanes, then a right on Kingburne and go to the end. Great variety of trails and your right beside the quarry which is sweet (bring your swimming shorts). Also super easy to find your way back to the car considering the vastness of the trails.

I consider this area to be pretty technical, lots of single track, and the skid roads are bumpy. This is my favorite area right now... Only one complaint. These are really popular trails for all types of people so you have to be alert to horses, ninjas and children.

James and I, at the quarry near Shawnigan Lake.

Beware the power of the hill of death. All loomers shall ride through it.

Here's a little video of me riding at the quarry in Cobble Hill. It's insanely steep although in the video it doesn't look like much haha.

Interestingly, upon viewing the video we discovered Satan and God showed up to watch the climb which was pretty cool of them. Thanks guys! (see if you can spot them!)
